UK Hub for Marine Research Facilities

NOC is the home of a number of leading facilities that specialise in data sharing, sample preservation and marine research. Varying in purpose and expertise, these facilities are vital in the long-term preservation of information, digital and physical, on our ocean and will help us make evidence-based decisions in the short and long term.

Our facilities supply high quality ocean data, house and process state-of-the-art core logging and sediment cores, and a house a vast, curated collection of deep-sea and open-ocean invertebrate samples dating back as far as 1925. Our facilities are available to the scientific community and to industry in order to share our wealth of information and to work together to deepen our knowledge of the ocean.

Our World-Class Facilities

Ranging from data ingestion and processing to housing and storing specimens and sediment from the ocean, these facilities provide a world-class service to the marine science community.

How Our Facilities Contribute to Marine Science

These facilities play a crucial role in every stage of both researching the ocean out at sea, all the way to processing findings and preparing it for publications and papers. The work these facilities carry out are important in providing policy and decision makers with evidence-based advice.
